Meet the Heart Warriors

Meet the Heart Warriors, The Prestons – an incredible family from Oxford who have chosen to fundraise for Max’s Foundation.

Daniel and Kayleigh Preston together with 18 of their friends and family will be running the Oxford Half Marathon in October as well as organising and taking part in quite a few other events – all to raise money for our Charity. They have named themselves The Heart Warriors and their story is incredible.

Kayleigh, Daniel and their daughter Georgina welcomed a baby boy called Henry into their family on 14th August 2016.

At 2 days old Henry was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy after an ECG and Echocardiogram was undertaken due to Henry suffering with foetal Supraventricular Tachycardia.

Henry spent 3 weeks in new-born intensive care, once his SVT was under control he was allowed to go home on medication to help control his heart arrhythmia.

At 3 months old Henry’s care was transferred to a specialist team at Great Ormond Street Hospital under the care of Dr Juan Pablo Kaski, the lead of the inherited cardiovascular diseases unit and also Ambassador of Max’s Foundation.

After reading about Max’s Foundation, Daniel and Kayleigh knew that they wanted to help raise money for the charity any way they could, after feeling heartbroken by what had happened to Max.

The Preston family met Dave and Shira Schiller in March 2018. They talked about how they found out about the charity and why they chose to fundraise for them, they talked about Henry and how they found out about his diagnosis.

Kayleigh and Daniel summed this up in their own words “meeting Dave and Shira was a complete honour, they are truly wonderful and inspirational people and we feel so proud to be fundraising and supporting their charity”.

The Heart Warriors are made up of 20 people - Kayleigh, Daniel, Josie, Paige, Lizzie, John, Natalie, Emily W, Jo, Nick, Robert, Terry, Tina, David, Chrissie, Sue, Thane, Martin, Richard and Emily O, all running the Oxford Half Marathon on the 7th October 2018 for Max’s Foundation!

Also, to help with fundraising, Daniel and John are cycling over 200 miles from Oxford to Pembrokeshire, South West Wales in a day with support on the 15th June 2018.

Daniel is a Firefighter based at Didcot Fire Station and Blue Watch are doing a charity car wash and holding a station open day on the 21st July 2018 all in aid of Max’s Foundation.

The Heart Warriors aim is to raise as much money as much money as they can, and we are so grateful to them for everything that they are doing for us.

Watch this space as we will be posting updates on their achievements regularly!
